School streets: putting children and the planet first

This paper aims to contribute to achieving a ‘safe and healthy journey for every child’. This is a key part of the Habitat III New Urban Agenda, and will contribute to achieving a range of Sustainable Development Goals.
The FIA Foundation reports on its charitable activities during 2021, including participating in COP26 to argue for cleaner vehicles and investment in zero carbon travel; campaigning for ‘Streets for Life with the United Nations; supporting motor sport safety research and programmes; and providing grants to UNICEF and IFRC to support equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines.
Launched to coincide with the UN Streets for Life campaign, the FIA Foundation’s new Advocacy Hub, based within the Child Health Initiative, will focus on supporting global, national and city campaigns for 30km/h streets where children and youth live, walk and cycle.
Our 2020 Annual Report, ‘Safe & Green Mobility in a Time of Pandemic’, highlights the charity’s response to COVID-19, including our Solidarity Fund and support for policy efforts to ‘Build Back Better’.
