Second United Against Online Abuse global conference supported by FIA Foundation

The second United Against Online Abuse (UAOA) global conference, convened by the FIA and supported by the FIA Foundation, welcomed experts and thought leaders from industry, sport, and civil society to Stockholm, Sweden.
The event welcomed new members committed to combating online abuse, sharing knowledge, innovation, and tools to accelerate progress to create a safer digital environment. Launched in 2023 and supported by the FIA Foundation, the UAOA campaign seeks to drive both regulatory and behavioural change in response to the growing threat of online harassment. In the last two years, UAOA has released groundbreaking research, spearheaded global awareness campaigns, and brought together key stakeholders to promote respectful and inclusive digital spaces.
Delivering the opening speech of the event, the Foundation’s Executive Director, Saul Billingsley, said: “The United Against Online Abuse campaign is so important because it is working to understand and map the roots of this problem, to identify and eradicate the trolls’ hiding places, and to train athletes in methods of resistance and resilience. It does this through a winning combination of academic and artificial intelligence, policy thought-leading and practical tools. Advocacy and action.”

During the conference, the coalition welcomed two new charter signatories, Signify Group and the International Federation for Sport Officials (IFSO), bringing the total number of partners to over 70, including global governments and industry organisations that have already committed to addressing online hate.
FIA President and UAOA Founder, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, said: “We are united by one goal: to protect sport from online abuse. As a force for good it inspires us, brings us together, and teaches us respect, teamwork, and discipline. The FIA launched the United Against Online Abuse campaign to protect athletes, officials, volunteers and fans from digital harm. We are very excited to welcome Signify and IFSO and their pioneering work in this field to our coalition as they will strengthen our ability to combine research, regulation and innovation in driving meaningful change worldwide.”
This conference marks a significant milestone for the UAOA campaign, establishing it as the leading global coalition against online abuse in sport. It brings together sports federations, national governments, regulatory bodies, and technology platforms. To date, the UAOA coalition has welcomed endorsements from the Governments of Greece, France, Slovenia, Albania, Australia, Kenya, Costa Rica, Namibia, Georgia, Paraguay, and Rwanda, alongside sport federations and organisations such as FIM, ARISF, IFAF, the International Esports Federation, ASETEK SimSports, Peace and Sport Monaco, UNESCO, the Council of Europe, Clark Hill LLP, Arwen.AI, and DCU University.
