FIA Motorsport Safety Week
The fourth FIA Safety Week brought together sport and safety specialists to share the latest innovations, guidance, and best practices to improve motor sport safety standards worldwide, supported by the FIA Foundation.
Over 4,000 attendees from 122 auto clubs joined 15 online sessions throughout the week, covering topics ranging from equipment safety and technical scrutineering to karting safety and the latest medical and rescue advancements.
Highlights included seminars on: innovative technology and how the new AI safety cameras support national-level rally events; karting advancements, such as new Karting Private Testing Guidelines and advanced Karting light panels; and medical and rescue seminar research that has informed new guidance, including on driver extraction. The FIA Safety Department also released a series of ‘how to’ videos addressing frontal head restraints, driver equipment, safety cages, and safety switches, created to support member clubs in organising and officiating events safely. The videos also support competitors to check that their driver equipment is ready to race or rally.
Xavier Mestelan Pinon, FIA Chief Technical and Safety Officer, said: "Safety Week is a great opportunity for our safety, technical and sporting departments to come together and share knowledge, guidance, and best practice with member clubs around the world. These accessible, informative and interactive sessions form part of our commitment as a knowledge-led federation supporting our Members to deliver safe, inclusive and thrilling events for all."
Mohammed Ben Sulayem, FIA President and FIA Foundation Chairman, said: “It is the start of a new year and a new season, but our commitment to improving safety both on and off the track remains unchanged. I am proud that the fourth edition of FIA Safety Week has brought together our FIA Family from across the world to share ideas, learn from one another, and progress our shared mission to improve motorsport safety standards. Thank you to our Members for their dedication to improving safety and their commitment to powerful collaboration, learning, and progress.”
