Amb. (Dr) Amina Mohamed is a Kenyan diplomat, lawyer and negotiator. An accomplished international civil servant, she has distinguished herself in public and foreign service working on a wide range of global issues, from Integrity in sports and Cultural diplomacy to Security including, cyber security, peace and conflict resolution, human and humanitarian law, environmental policy, sustainable development, Constitutional law, intellectual property law, Multilateral trade and Investment. 

Amb. Mohamed held the positions of Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Education, Science and Technology , and Sports, Culture and Heritage (2013 – 2022). She was instrumental in bringing back the Safari Rally to Kenya after 19 years. 

Earlier, Dr Mohamed held the position of Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, National Cohesion and Constitutional Affairs, she was instrumental in the legal and institutional reforms that took place in Kenya from 2008 to 2011, including the review process that culminated in the promulgation of a new constitution.

A legal expert and practitioner in domestic and international law, Amb. Mohamed has also held various high-level international leadership positions, including United Nations Assistant Secretary General and Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) (2011 – 2013). During her tenure, she spearheaded the implementation of UNEP’s Medium-Term Strategy and reforms. She also served as Kenya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, WTO and Conference on Disarmament in Geneva (2000 – 2006).

Her outstanding service has earned her various awards, including the prestigious Adebisi Babatunde Thomas Entrepreneurship Institute Excellence in Diplomacy Award, the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun (Government of Japan), an honorary knighthood by the Italian Government, the Nile award from the Sudan and Kenya's highest national awards of Elder of the Golden Hear( EGH) and CBS.

Amb. Mohamed holds a Master’s degree in International Law and two honorary doctorates.
