Jamila Porter

Jamila M. Porter, DrPH, MPH is the Chief of Staff at the de Beaumont Foundation, a philanthropic organization whose mission is to advance policy, build partnerships, and strengthen public health to create communities where people can achieve their best possible health.

Dr. Porter’s work focuses on transforming the interconnected social, environmental, and power structures that impact health. Her expertise includes public health, active transportation, policy evaluation, injury and violence prevention, equity, and social justice. An award-winning researcher, Dr. Porter authored the first study to link the adoption of a Complete Streets statute to statewide, multi-decade decreases in pedestrian fatalities. She has published articles in a variety of peer-reviewed journals, including the American Journal of Public Health, the Journal of MultiDisciplinary Evaluation, the Journal of Public Health Management and Practice, and the Journal of Transport and Land Use.

Previously, Dr. Porter was Director of Resilient Communities with the Big Cities Health Coalition (BCHC). In that role, she led BCHC’s efforts to build healthy, resilient, and vibrant communities across the largest cities in the United States. She has also worked in the non-profit, consulting, and international development sectors.

Dr. Porter earned her bachelor’s degree in Communication and Health Policy and Administration from Wake Forest University. She earned her Master of Public Health degree from Mercer University School of Medicine and her Doctor of Public Health degree from the University of Georgia College of Public Health.
